In the tradition of The Pink Panther comes the mob comedy The Don of 42nd Street. Tony is a respected member of the mob, and runs his own crew. In the midst of one of his "jobs," Tony has a stroke and collapses to the ground. A couple of his guys, Franco and Nino, take him to an underground hospital, where he is attended to by a hopped up doctor and inebriated nurse. The prognosis is not good. Tony will be out of commission for a while.
With the risk of having another one of the bosses muscle in on their territory, Franco and Nico (dumb and dumber), hatch a plan to cover up Tony's mishap. They decide to track down Tony's twin brother, J.B., and convince him (or force him) to pretend to be Tony. The only problem is, J.B. is the exact opposite of Tony. J.B. is a "Broadway type," who prefers the theater to running rackets. However, not willing to miss out on an opportunity to "perform," J.B. decides to step into his brother's shoes. Turns out J.B. is not quite the actor he thinks he is, and his less then award winning performance as Tony raises suspicion from his main mob boss rival, Vince.
Vince, begins to think Tony isn't Tony, but can't prove it. After his own crew fumbles the attempt to find out the truth, Vince sends in Barney, "the notorious midget assassin" to get the job done. After a wild chase that finds Barney fighting with J.B., dressed as a clown, on a stretcher being pulled by an ambulance through the streets of Manhattan, even Barney fails to finish the job. Vince then decides to take out the big boss, Sal, who has always favored Tony. Vince kills Sal by planting an explosive device inside of a cannoli. By this time, Tony has recovered from his stroke, and seeks revenge on Vince and his crew. When Tony finally squares off with Vince, and Vince literally has a gun to Tony's head, J.B. steps in, and in heroic fashion protects his brother and takes down Vince. As an expression of his gratitude, Tony crowns J.B. the Don of 42nd Street. The film stars John Hoyt (Carlito's Way Die Hard 3) in the dual role of Tony and J.B., Nick Damici (Mulberry Street) and Daniel Margotta (got milk?) as Tony's two sidekicks, Maria Soccor (K-Ville) as Tony's squeeze, Tim House (Law and Order) as Vince and co-stars Louis Vanaria (Boardwalk Empire). The film is directed by Fred Gallo.
